Opposition leader announces US visit

April 18, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has announced a visit to the United States coming up in two weeks.
She intends to meet with officials of President Donald Trump’s administration and members of the Congress, the politician told I Gryanul Grem political show on YouTube.
“We are trying to convey our position and the importance of supporting both Ukraine and Belarus because we believe that a free Belarus is also in the interests of the United States,” she said.
President Trump is really committed to ending the war in Ukraine and can succeed, she noted.
“Both Belarusians and Ukrainians also want this most of all, but we should realize that this war is important for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s and [Alaksandar] Łukašenka’s survival, and they will not make concessions voluntarily,” the politician noted, calling on Washington to take a firm stance. She added that the Trump administration may already be drawing some conclusions in this regard.
Belarusian pro-democracy forces launched the strategic dialogue with the US in late 2023. Designed as an annual event, it is a platform for maintaining relations between the Belarusian opposition and the US government. Currently, there are no reasons to halt it, Cichanoŭskaja noted.
The Belarusian opposition leader visited the US twice last year.
