Brother of jailed journalist Łosik rescued from Belarus

July 22, Pozirk. The BySol Solidarity Foundation reported on social media that Mikita Łosik, the brother of jailed journalist Ihar Łosik, has been evacuated from Belarus before he was taken to a correctional facility to serve his sentence.
The foundation has announced a 60-day fundraiser for Mikita, with a target of €3,000.
“The raised funds will be spent on medical and psychological assistance, basic household items and rent for now,” the press release said.
On July 8, the Viciebsk Regional Court sentenced 25-year-old Mikita Łosik to three years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility.
He was found guilty of facilitating extremism for sharing several pictures with the now-defunct Biełaruski Hajun, a group that monitored movements of Russian forces and equipment in Belarus.
Łosik was released in the courtroom to wait for his sentence to come into effect. His arrest was reported on May 9. He was soon declared a political prisoner by human rights groups.
