Cichanoŭskaja receives Magnitsky Award for human rights

November 14, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja received the Magnitsky Award yesterday in London.
The politician shared the prize with her husband Siarhiej Cichanoŭski, who was not able to attend the ceremony. Both were recognized as outstanding opposition political figures.
The award commemorates Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who was murdered in Russian police custody after exposing a massive government corruption scheme in 2009.
Cichanoŭskaja dedicated the award to all jailed Belarusian regime critics, whom she described as hostages, held behind bars for their love of their country and freedom, and those who gave up their lives for the freedom of Belarus and Ukraine.
Like Sergei Magnitsky, they all suffer behind bars but do not resign themselves to injustice, she stressed.
