Siarhiej Dubaviec wins Jerzy Giedroyć award

November 16, Pozirk. Siarheij Dubaviec was handed the 2025Jerzy Giedroyć literary award for his prose “Занзібар. Сталенне маладой душы“ (Zanzibar. The Coming of Age of a Young Soul) at a ceremony in Gdansk, Poland, on November 15.

The second prize went to Juhasia Kalada for “Перамена месцаў“ (A Change of Places). The prize comes with a scholarship for a monthly stay at the Writer’s House on the Swedish Island of Gotland.

Dźmitryj Dziadzienka was awarded the third prize for “Гульні Цырцэі“ (Cyrcea’s Games).

This year’s ceremony was organized by Belarusian PEN and the International Union of Belarusian Writers. Side events were hosted by Chatka, a Belarusian culture society, the European Solidarity Center and Polish PEN.

Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Awards are given for books of prose written in the Belarusian language. After the government’s crackdown on dissent, its hosts were forced into exile.
