November 22, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has pardoned 31 Ukrainian nationals convicted in Belarus in line with agreements reached with United States President Donald Trump, his spokeswoman Natalla Ejsmant has said.
She cited “principles of humanism and “a gesture of goodwill” in a video posted by the Belarusian ruler’s press office on the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel.
“Right now, at this very moment, they [prisoners] are being handed over to the Ukrainian side,” Ejsmant said, noting that Kyiv sought their release in order to establish conditions for resolving the armed conflict.
“Negotiations with various countries, first and foremost with the US, are currently in an active phase. We have consistently stated and reiterated that Belarus is open to dialogue and prepared to consider proposals from all interested parties,” she added.
In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
