Germany ready to host Kaleśnikava and Babaryka — interior minister

December 15, Pozirk. Germany will accept released Belarusian opposition figures Maryja Kaleśnikava and Viktar Babaryka, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told ARD yesterday.
The official made this statement while commenting on the talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and representatives of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witcoff and Jared Kushner, that took place that day in Berlin.
Germany is interested in strengthening the Belarusian pro-democracy movement, even if it is based outside Belarus, Dobrindt noted, describing Kaleśnikava and Babaryka as prominent pro-democracy politicians.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul welcomed the December 13 release of 123 people held in Belarusian prisons on political grounds, acknowledging Washington’s diplomatic efforts.
Babaryka, who intended to run for president in Belarus five years ago, and his campaign manager Kaleśnikava are now in Ukraine, where they were taken after their release.
Kaleśnikava had lived in Germany from 2007 to 2020.
