Minsk concerned over “escalation of the situation” in Middle East

February 28, Pozirk. Minsk is closely monitoring “escalation of the situation between Israel and Iran, which has also affected friendly Gulf countries,” the Belarusian foreign ministry has said in a statement following reports of strikes on Iran by Israel and the United States.
“We call on the countries involved in the exchange of strikes to abandon dangerous confrontation and return to resolving all differences through political and diplomatic means,” it reads.
The foreign ministry advised Belarusians in the Middle East to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities to ensure their safety, avoid large gatherings and refrain from filming strikes or their aftermath.
The diplomats issued a travel alert advising Belarusians to avoid travelling to the countries affected by the conflict. Those with upcoming trips must check with airlines and tour operators for the latest information on flight routes, they said, citing airspace closures across the region.
Belarusian embassies in Israel, Iran, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are providing the necessary consular assistance, the ministry added.
Military actions in the Middle East started amid stalled diplomatic efforts regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Washington insisted that Tehran shut down its main nuclear facilities and transfer its stockpile of enriched uranium to the US, while Iranian officials indicated willingness to consider compromises in exchange for sanctions relief.
