Nobel Prize winner Bialacki to focus on international advocacy
June 10, Pozirk. Belarusian Nobel Prize winner Aleś Bialacki (Ales Bialiatski) announced today that his new Polish-based foundation would focus on international human rights advocacy.
“The scale of the crisis requires a different kind of contribution from me,” he explains. “I believe that I must work more at the international level, using the moral capital of the Nobel Peace Prize, the international experience gained during my years as vice president of the International Federation for Human Rights, my membership in International PEN, and the experience acquired during decades of struggle against dictatorship and political repression.”
As Nobel Prize winner Bialacki says on the Viasna Human Rights Center’s website, the very concept of human rights is currently in danger around the world.
Bialacki says he will remain chairman of the Viasna Human Rights Center.
Bialacki has invited prominent French expert Sacha Koulaeva, of International Federation for Human Rights and ex-member of Russia’s Memorial, to join the foundation as head of strategic development, advocacy and partnerships.
While meeting with Bialacki on June 8, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski congratulated him on registering his foundation.
