Belarusian climber dies in Switzerland after Matterhorn fall

July 14, Pozirk. Two climbers, nationals of Belarus and Israel, died during the descent from the summit of the Matterhorn in the Alps, bluewin.ch reports.

The accident happened late in the morning on July 12 at an altitude of around 4,030 metres, the media outlet noted, citing the public prosecutor’s office of the Swiss canton of Valais. Witnesses said they saw two men plunge after a rockfall.

The rescue operation with helicopters reportedly lasted about four hours.

The Belarusian foreign ministry confirmed the death of a Belarusian national, the Belarusian state-run media said.
