August 29, Pozirk. Pavieł Latuška, deputy head of the opposition transition cabinet, has called on Brussels and Warsaw to impose “asymmetrical sanctions” on Minsk after Belarus recently blacklisted several European media outlets.
The politician addressed his appeal to the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the Polish foreign ministry, citing “the Alaksandar Łukašenka regime’s latest attacks on the EU information space.” Belarusian authorities recently extended the extremist designations routinely used against Belarusian independent media to Poland’s PAP news agency, Euronews and the EU-funded EUvsDisinfo project.
Latuška stressed that the Minsk regime’s moves not only deprive people of access to accurate information but also create a direct risk of criminal prosecution for citizens of Belarus and EU countries who use these media resources.
The politician’s team at the National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) proposed that the EU and Poland impose sanctions, including travel bans and asset freezes, on those responsible for what it described as information aggression.
In particular, the activists listed Belarusian state-run BelTA news agency and propaganda workers who spread disinformation, as well as judges who issue rulings blacklisting media outlets and senior information ministry officials overseeing censorship and reprisals against independent media.
The EU has not imposed new sanctions over human rights violations in Belarus since March 2025, the NAM said, urging its European partners to resume sanctions pressure.
