Łukašenka repeats that Belarus should build ultimate anti-drone weapon

October 6, Pozirk. One of the priorities in the military sphere is to “nullify” the role of unmanned aerial vehicles by developing reliable and effective anti-drone weapons, Alaksandar Łukašenka said on October 6 while visiting the Powder Metal Industry Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
“We need results. While preparing for this trip, I thought that [the chairman of the National Academy of Sciences] Uładzimir Sciapanavič [Karanik] would, for the first time, report not only to me but also to the people on his achievements in ensuring the security of the state. This should not be yet another fairy tale about how we will do something tomorrow,” Łukašenka said.
On August 4, the Belarusian ruler said that Belarus’ future “Academy of Intellectual Technology” could invent a new anti-drone weapon that would render unmanned aerial vehicles obsolete.
The Academy could develop a “fundamentally new, powerful means of fighting drones” that will “nullify the significance and role of UAVs,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying.
Łukašenka warned that the Academy should be a key research and development hub and not a “diploma mill.” He played up its prospects for developing artificial intelligence technologies, new materials, digital industry and quantum technologies and upholding Belarus’ “technological sovereignty.”
The Belarusian ruler expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the National Academy of Sciences, saying that its researchers “promise a lot” but “do not generate breakthrough ideas.”
Łukašenka directed that final decisions on the establishment of the new Academy should be made as soon as possible.
On September 10, he signed an edict that provides for the Academy to be established and to launch its training programs in September 2027.
