Ukraine to scrap deal with Belarus on migrant workers’ social protection
December 21, BPN. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine initiated the termination of an agreement with Belarus and Russia on cooperation in social protection of migrant workers.
The relevant bill was approved at a government meeting on December 20 and will soon go to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration, the Ukrainian government’s press office reported.
“The government is consistently reviewing its international treaties with aggressor countries. This work proceeds at a slow pace but is necessary in light of the war-time situation,” First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said.
The deal was signed at the level of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 1994. The Ukrainian government stressed that the agreement on cooperation in social protection of migrant workers with other CIS member states would remain in force.
Among other things, the bill is expected to affect education, healthcare and insurance of Belarusians working in Ukraine.
