France committed to support Belarusian civil society in 2023 – foreign ministry
December 30, BPN. France strongly condemns the Belarusian authorities’ crackdown on dissent and calls for the unconditional and immediate release of all those arbitrarily arrested in Belarus, the French foreign ministry told BPN.
France’s position remains unchanged more than two years after the rigged presidential election in Belarus, it added.
In 2022, the Belarusian regime was an accomplice in the unjustified and illegal Russia’s war on Ukraine by allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus, which is contrary to the values of freedom and democracy, the ministry stressed.
France distinguishes between the Belarusian regime and the ordinary people and will continue supporting Belarusian civil society in 2023, including through its recently appointed special envoy Violaine de Villemeur, the foreign ministry said.
