Reporter Poczobut’s trial postponed to January 16
January 5, BPN. The trial of jailed reporter Andrzej Poczobut (Andrej Pačobut), scheduled to open at the Hrodna Regional Court on January 9, has been postponed again, this time to January 16, the Belarusian Association of Journalists says.
The trial was originally to begin on November 28 last year. Poczobut has been held in detention for two years.
The journalist and activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus was arrested in Hrodna on March 25, 2021. He is charged with inciting hatred and calling for sanctions against Belarus.
Last autumn, Poczobut refused to petition Alaksandr Łukašenka for pardon. In October the Committee for State Security (KGB) put him on the list of “persons involved in terrorist activities.” Of five defendants in the case, Poczobut is the only one to remain in custody.
