Łukašenka reiterates his support for Russia’s war on Ukraine
January 7, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has publicly supported the collection of aid for the Russian military during his January 7 visit to the St. Elisabeth Orthodox convent in Minsk, known for its pro-Russian position.
“You are doing the right thing,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying. “I’ve never concealed that we are not only helping our Russian brothers, the Russians. My yesterday’s visit to the soldiers, to the Russian military, openly shows that we supported and keep supporting our brothers.”
On January 6, Łukašenka visited the Abuz-Lasnoŭski training range in the Brest region and handed over a large batch of first-aid kits for Russian soldiers stationed there.
In 2022, he confirmed that a 20,000-strong grouping of Russian forces crossed into Ukraine from Belarus at the outset of the war. Russia retreated from northern Ukraine later, while Belarus treated its wounded soldiers.
