January 8, BPN. Authorities have released journalist Siarhiej Čyhryn from the detention center in Słonim, Hrodna region, 22 days after his arrest, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reported.
A court sentenced him to two consecutive jail terms for allegedly sharing opposition content.
Three days after his arrest, Čyhryn was fired from the Słonim Drama Theater.
Čyhryn used to write for the local newspaper Słonimski Vieśnik and was an editor with the now-defunct independent newspaper Hazieta Słonimskaja.
