Any attempt to attack Belarus to fail – Russian diplomat
January 13, BPN. Any attempts to attack Belarus are “doomed to fail,” Alexei Polishchuk, a senior Russian diplomat, told TASS.
In recent years NATO has been boosting its assault units in Poland and the Baltic states, but the Union State of Russia and Belarus is well protected, he noted.
NATO casts it as a preventive action to neutralize certain threats from Russia, Polishchuk said, adding that the Western military came there for a long time despite allegations of temporary deployment.
The diplomat stressed that the Union State had to respond to such unfriendly steps. Moscow and Minsk have a “common defense space” and are bound by the relevant obligations, he added.
Polish political experts make statements which do not help to de-escalate tension in the region, Polishchuk said, accusing Poland of claiming to “have rights to Belarusian lands.”
Russia and Belarus agreed last October to set up a regional group of forces to allegedly secure their Union State. Militarization of Belarus is taking place amid the ongoing Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Authorities in Minsk denied Belarusian troops’ involvement in combat operations on the Russian side. However, Belarus allowed Russian troops to attack Ukraine from its territory.
