Viciebsk-based journalist arrested on unknown charges

February 11, BPN. Law enforcers arrested Viciebsk-based freelance cameraman Viačasłaŭ Łazaraŭ on February 9, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reported.

They seized his mobile phones and video camera, and took him to the Investigative Committee.

His relatives spent two days trying to find out where he was and what charges were brought against him. In the morning of February 11, it became clear that Łazaraŭ was held in a detention facility in Viciebsk. The charges remain unknown.

In October 2020, amid protests that followed the disputed presidential election, law enforcers had searched the home of Łazaraŭ’s mother.
