Łukašenka accuses Lithuania of attempting to overthrow him in his message of greetings
February 16, BPN. Lithuania’s policy towards Belarus is “unreasonably hostile and deceitful,” Alaksandr Łukašenka said in his message to the Lithuanian people on Independence Restoration Day.
Belarus has been and remains open for cooperation and dialogue with the people of Lithuania despite the “failed attempts by the Lithuanian ruling elite to change the government elected by the Belarusian people,” he claimed.
He wished the Lithuanians “a speedy restoration” of their state’s political and economic course that would reflect their real interests.
Vilnius does not recognize Łukašenka as the legally elected president of Belarus, while Lithuania is one of the top destinations for Belarusians fleeing politically-motivated persecution at home.
Lithuania has a duty to help other nations on their way to freedom and keeps supporting the hopes of Belarusians for a real change, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said.
