Former US House Speaker Pelosi to facilitate hearing on Belarus in US Congress – Cichanoŭskaja’s aide
February 19, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja discussed assistance to Belarusian civil society and independent media with Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the US House of Representatives.
They met at the Munich Security Conference on February 18, Cichanoŭskaja’s aide Franak Viačorka told BPN. This is their third meeting, following the Munich Security Conference in February 2022 and Madeleine Albright’s funeral in Washington two months later.
Pelosi accepted Cichanoŭskaja’s invitation to speak at the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Forum in Washington on March 23 and agreed to facilitate a US congressional hearing on Alaksandr Łukašenka’s role in Russia’s war on Ukraine, Viačorka said.
Belarusian opposition will not allow the takeover of Belarus by Russia which is now happening, Cichanoŭskaja stressed, asking for assistance in preserving Belarusian statehood.
Pelosi has yet to announce their meeting to the public.
