June 22, BPN. President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law to ban book imports from Belarus, Russia or the occupied territories, as Alaksandr Łukašenka supports Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Zelensky said on Telegram that the law was sent to the European Union for assessment in connection with Ukraine’s membership bid, since the bloc respects the rights of ethnic minorities.
Under the law, certain products in the language of the “aggressor state” can still be imported to the country and distributed with a “proper permission.”
Books that are not “anti-Ukrainian” can be brought in hand luggage, but not for sale.
