UN Human Rights Committee registers Cichanoŭskaja’s complaint

June 23, BPN. Two weeks ago, the UN Human Rights Committee registered a complaint by Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja, her press office reports.

The Belarusian opposition leader accuses authorities in Minsk of violating her right to be elected in fair elections, the right to a fair trial and the right not to be tortured as manifested in her forcible expulsion from Belarus.

The complaint contains “ample evidence” that authorities obstructed Cichanoŭskaja’s 2020 election campaign as well as data from the independent initiatives that prove election irregularities, her team said.

Lithuania-based Respect-Protect-Fulfill (RPF) will represent Cichanoŭskaja’s interests. A positive decision on the complaint would be of “great importance” in terms of “legal confirmation of [Alaksandr] Łukašenka’s illegitimacy,” the RPF lawyer Mikita Maciuščankaŭ said.
