Italy determined to fight for freedom of Belarus, Ukraine – Senator Terzi

November 8, Pozirk. Giulio Terzi, who heads the group of friends of Belarus at the Italian Senate, expressed his full support for the Belarusian opposition during his meeting with Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja in Berlin on November 7, her aide Franak Viačorka told Pozirk.
Italy’s former Foreign Minister Terzi supported the European aspirations of Belarusians. He and Cichanoŭskaja discussed assistance to Belarusian political prisoners and their families and agreed to hold several Belarus-themed events at the Italian parliament.
On the same day, Terzi addressed an international meeting of MPs supporting democratic Belarus. Participants represented parliamentary groups from Austria, France, Germany, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United States, and Ukraine as well as the European Parliament.
The European Union must quickly develop a targeted program of assistance to victims of politically-motivated persecution, including better procedures for granting asylum and temporary protection to anyone seeking political asylum, he said.
The senator also stressed the need for new sanctions.
The Italian parliament, government and civil society are fully committed to the resolute fight for freedom and democracy in Belarus and Ukraine, he stressed.
