Defense minister receives Cuba’s award for fighting imperialism

January 31, Pozirk. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin, who is visiting Cuba, has been awarded the Order of Playa Girón, the defense ministry’s press office reports.
The order distinguishes Cubans and foreigners who struggle against imperialism and reactionary forces, make valuable contributions to the development of the armed forces and promote peace and progress of mankind, it noted.
Chrenin reportedly delivered a lecture at Máximo Gómez Command Academy.
“Some of its students, who studied in Minsk, were lucky to receive a personal invitation from the defense minister to visit Belarus to recall their student years,” the ministry said.
Chrenin’s visit to Cuba started on January 27. On January 30, he and his Cuban counterpart Álvaro López Miera signed documents on bilateral military cooperation. The defense minister described Cuba as “Belarus’ strategic ally in the Western hemisphere.”
