Łukašenka goes on a visit to Uzbekistan
February 7, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka is in Uzbekistan on a state visit, his press office reported.
He will have a face-to-face meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The two leaders will also hold talks as part of delegations to discuss ways to boost trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
“The parties will pay particular attention to the development of cooperative relations in different industrial sectors and cooperation in agriculture, science, education and tourism,” the press release reads.
They will also discuss “the regional and global agenda” and “the two countries’ cooperation in integration organizations and in the international arena.”
The delegations are expected to sign bilateral documents, including a cooperation plan for 2024–2025.
Łukašenka and Mirziyoyev last had substantive talks on October 13, before the CIS summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The two leaders noted that “trade has positive dynamics but its growth potential is much greater,” so it is important to “make the next step.” Mirziyoyev said that a “regional agenda schedule for 2024” was needed.
Belarusian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Leanid Marynič told a roundtable in January that the two countries saw advanced political and economic cooperation. He also outlined priority areas, emphasizing the importance of broader industrial cooperation.
The partners are using various business dialogue formats to expand cooperation, such as the Belarusian-Uzbek Agrarian Forum, a business council and the forum of regions, he said.
