Ukrainian intelligence: Belarus to gain freedom when Russia falls
March 9, Pozirk. Russia’s defeat can help Belarus find real freedom, the Ukrainian defense ministry’s intelligence department has said in a statement.
It was released on the second anniversary of the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment, a Belarusian unit fighting alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The statement describes the volunteers as the basis for the new army in a free Belarus.
Belarusians have been fighting against the Russian aggressors from the first days of the war, protecting Kyiv, fighting to liberate Mykolaiv, Kherson and Kharkiv, and defending Severodonetsk, Lysychansk and Bakhmut, it noted.
Belarusian volunteers formed the Kalinoŭski regiment in Ukraine in March 2022, initially as a battalion.
It consists of the Lićvin and Vołat battalions, a UAV unit and a mechanized unit. Its stated mission is to liberate Belarus by defending Ukraine.
The regiment reportedly teamed up with the Belarusian hacktivists who assist it in IT matters and help vet recruits.
The regiment’s recent report confirms 19 deaths in combat, including Illa Chrenaŭ, Dźmitryj Apanasovič, Pavieł Susłaŭ, Ivan Marčuk, Vasil Hrudavik, Vasil Parfiankoŭ, Vadzim Šatroŭ and Mirasłaŭ Łazoŭski.
Belarusian authorities have opened criminal cases against the regiment’s members.
