Belarus 1 TV describes Italy’s chargé d’affaires as ambassador

March 11, Pozirk. Belarus 1 TV broadcast an interview with the Italian chargé d’affaires Tomaso Pietro Marchegiani on Sunday evening, referring to him as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary.
Marchegiani arrived in Minsk in early November to head Italy’s diplomatic mission as chargé d’affaires, the Italian Embassy tweeted on November 2. He was not reported to present his credentials to Alaksandar Łukašenka.
After the 2020 disputed presidential election, Hungary is the only country to send an ambassador to Minsk. All other European Union countries, including Italy, are represented by chargé d’affaires.
Belarus 1 recorded the interview with the diplomat during ice hockey games that took place in Minsk on March 6 and 8.
The diplomat praised the Belarusians’ hospitality and efficiency, stressing the importance of tourism, people-to-people contacts, trade and economic ties and separately noting cooperation in agriculture.
