Belarusian officers participating in counter-terrorism drill in Iran

May 1, Pozirk. A Belarusian military delegation, headed by Alaksandar Bas in charge of the main training department of the Armed Forces, is taking part in a command and staff exercise in Iran’s Tehran, the defense ministry’s press office reported.
Belarusian and Iranian servicemen are reportedly practicing combatting terrorist groups during the Security Belt 2024 drill.
The announcement comes days after Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chenin pledged readiness to “develop and strengthen” cooperation with Iran at the meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Ashtiani in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Belarus intensified its relations with Iran last year. In March, Alaksandar Łukašenka visited Tehran and held talks with President Ebrahim Raisi. A road map for comprehensive cooperation in 2023-2026 was signed.
