Pavieł Łatuška and Movement for Freedom dominate opposition vote

May 28, Pozirk. Some 6,700 Belarusians have voted in the election for the opposition Coordination Council (KR), just a tiny share of the critics who have fled reprisals or stayed in the country without the opportunity to protest in the streets.
In the early hours of May 28, the KR announced the following preliminary results:
- Solidarity: 104 votes, 0 mandates
- Liberty: 432 votes, six mandates
- European Choice: 605 votes, eight mandates
- Our Cause: 489 votes, seven mandates
- Voice of Diasporas: 184 votes, zero mandates
- Independent Belarusians: 616 votes, eight mandates
- Prakopjeŭ-Jahoraŭ Bloc: 1,050 votes and 13 mandates
- Team Łatuška and Movement for Freedom: 2,358 votes, 28 mandates
- Down with Fear!: 226 votes, three mandates
- Strana Dlya Zhizni: 61 votes, zero mandates
- Youth Offensive: 598 votes, seven mandates
The election was held online on May 25–27 under a proportional system, with a gender quota for women. Belarusians had to submit scans of their passports in order to vote.
According to one study, about 500,000–600,000 Belarusians left their country after the 2020 presidential election by January 2024.
Vote leaders
Pavieł Łatuška is a former government minister who joined the opposition in 2020. His National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) is based in Poland.
Movement for Freedom has its roots in the 2006 election campaign. In November 2021, the Supreme Court revoked its Belarusian registration. It is led by Juraś Hubarevič.
The final results are to be announced in June.
