Belarusian FM trumpets Minsk’s role in securing land transit between Europe and China

September 12, Pozirk. Belarus remains the only land route to Europe amid war in Ukraine and “restrictions in the Baltic States,” despite attempts by some countries to contest its role, Foreign Minister Maksim Ryžankoŭ has told participants at the 2024 Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong.
The diplomat praised Minsk’s “responsible policy” and “Europeans’ own pragmatism” for helping boost rail transit along the Belarusian section of the China-Europe route by 74 percent at the start of this year, reported the foreign ministry’s press office. He said that rail transits are on pace to reach an all-time high.
Most Western politicians are discouraged from cooperating with China and are only worried about their political careers, Ryžankoŭ claimed.
Western Europe is “pursuing a policy of self-destruction,” as it becomes less competitive over its sanctions against Russia, arms race and support for Ukraine along with the rejection of affordable energy, he charged.
Earlier, the foreign ministry’s unofficial Telegram channel claimed that Ryžankoŭ is representing Europe at the summit.
