Former riot police members trained to suppress riots in run-up to election

October 8, Pozirk. Draft-age Belarusians who served with riot police, the Almaz counterterror unit and the Internal Troops’ special forces have received comprehensive training at the Internal Troops’ special forces training center, the interior ministry reported.
Trainees demonstrated their marksmanship, tactics, military engineering, first-aid and drone operation skills.
The second stage of the training focuses on suppressing riots and storming buildings and vehicles.
The drill stems from Alaksandar Łukašenka’s order to bring the army and the security forces to an ideal state in the run-up to the presidential election coming up next year.
The first stage of the training was observed by Security Council State Secretary Alaksandar Valfovič, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakoŭ and the deputy head of Łukašenka’s administration, Uładzimir Piarcoŭ.
The previous 2020 presidential race was marred by police brutality against peaceful protesters.
