More than 60 Polish soldiers wounded at border with Belarus this year
October 21, Pozirk. Sixty-three Polish soldiers have been wounded at the border with Belarus since the beginning of the year, Gazeta Wyborcza reported, citing Pawel Bejda, a deputy defense minister.
As part of the Safe Podlasie operation, which began on August 1, 5,000 Polish troops have been sent to help border guards at the border with Belarus, with 800 more in reserve, Bejda said.
In addition, in a crisis, the army can send up to 17,000 people into a battle, he added. Some 9,000 can be deployed to the border within 48 hours with all their equipment and weapons.
Over the past three weeks, border guards reported fewer attempts by migrants to cross the Polish-Belarusian border illegally, he noted.
With some 60 attempts reported every day, Bejda warned that migration pressure can increase in the coming months.
