Presidential election set for January 26

October 23, Pozirk. Belarus will hold a presidential election on January 26, the country’s legislature has announced. The poll will be held five months ahead of the deadline provided by the law.

The election date is one month earlier than predicted by the opposition. The whole presidential election cycle will take just three months.

Łukašenka has already launched his re-election campaign with rallies at agricultural fairs across Belarus, while politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus continue unabated.

The 2020 election was marred by massive protests, allegations of fraud and an unprecedented crackdown on dissent.
