Hungarian foreign minister to visit Minsk

October 29, Pozirk. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov are expected to attend the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, which will bring together about 600 participants, Belarusian foreign ministry spokesman Anatol Hłaz said.
The conference will be held on October 31–November 1, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will send their delegations, according to Hłaz.
Minsk is expecting guests from 45 countries and has accredited 150 journalists for the conference.
The Hungarian, Russian and Syrian foreign ministers, the OSCE secretary general and other high-ranking officials will speak on the first day of the forum.
Szijjártó also attended the 1st Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security in October 2023.
Hungary maintains public contacts with Belarus despite supporting EU sanctions against the regime. This stance has been criticized for undermining EU efforts to isolate Belarus and legitimizing repression. Alaksandar Łukašenka emphasizes cooperation and shared views with Budapest.
