Belarus sends potash fertilizers to Iran via Russia

November 12, Pozirk. The first batch of Belarusian potash fertilizers was sent via Russia’s port in Makhachkala to Iran on November 8, the port administration reported, citing its CEO Jamal Aliyev.
The cargo was delivered to the port by rail. Up to 40,000 tons of Belarusian fertilizers are expected to be shipped by late 2024 with more than 200,000 tons planned for transshipment next year, it said.
The Makhachkala port also plans to transship Belarusian potash to India, Aliyev said.
The European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada imposed sanctions on the Belarusian potash giant Biełaruśkalij in 2021 over allegations of human rights abuses. A year later, Lithuania’s LTG Cargo terminated a contract with the Belarusian company for transporting potash to the Port of Klaipėda.
A few weeks ago, the European Court of Justice rejected Biełaruśkalij appeals against EU sanctions, noting that the company remains a key source of income for the Alaksandar Łukašenka regime and enjoys preferential treatment to export potash fertilizers.
