Rubel down against US dollar, euro, yuan at BCSE

November 25, Pozirk. The rubel has depreciated to 3.4682 against the US dollar at the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange (BCSE), plunging for the ninth consecutive trading session.
The Belarusian currency also fell to 3.645 per euro and 4.7841 per 10 Chinese yuan but climbed to 3.3379 per 100 Russian rubles.
Last week (November 18–22), the rubel lost 1.39 percent of its value against the dollar, 0.64 percent against the euro and 1.21 percent against the Chinese yuan but gained 0.69 percent against the Russian ruble.
The Belarusian currency lost 4.44 percent of its value against the dollar in the first 10 months of 2024.
Last week, economist Anatol Charytončyk played down fears of rubel depreciation.
“The dollar does not play a big role in the country today,” he stressed. “Export and import payments are mainly made in Russian rubles, and the Belarusian rubel is strengthening against the ruble,” he said.
Charytončyk noted that the rubel has not weakened considerably against the central bank’s basket of currencies, which includes the Russian ruble (60 percent), the US dollar (30 percent) and the Chinese yuan (10 percent).
