Government introduces apple imports licensing
September 25, Pozirk. The Belarusian Council of Ministers introduced a six-month licensing requirement for apple imports following this year’s strong harvest, the government’s press office reported, citing Directive No. 487 adopted yesterday.
The government said the domestic market was fully supplied with locally grown apples during the off-season.
Under the regulation, the import of apples originating from countries outside the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will be carried out under one-time licenses issued by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade in consultation with the agriculture ministry.
Last month, Belarus lost its position as the leading importer of Polish apples outside the European Union over what was described as Minsk’s policy of protecting domestic production during the harvest.
