Ukraine sells another batch of seized Belarusian potash fertilizers

March 4, Pozirk. Ukraine’s Asset Recovery and Management Agency reported a successful sale of 61 railway cars of seized Belarusian potash fertilizers worth about $1.09 million yesterday.
The proceeds will be used to buy military bonds among other things, it noted. The sales have been going on since mid-November 2024.
Kyiv started seizing Belarusian and Russian fertilizers transiting via Ukraine two years ago. The most recent seizure dates back to May 2024, when Ukraine confiscated 188 railway cars with $20 million worth of fertilizers belonging to Belarusian potash giant Biełaruśkalij at the port of Mykolaiv.
The company remains a key source of income for the Alaksandar Łukašenka and his officials and enjoys preferential treatment to export potash fertilizers, according to the European Court of Justice.
The European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada sanctioned Biełaruśkalij in 2021 over allegations of human rights abuses.
