Belarusian military officers inspecting a site in Serbia

April 3, Pozirk. A delegation of the Belarusian Armed Forces is conducting an “inspection of the designated area” in Serbia on April 2 and 3, said Valeryj Ravienka of the defense ministry’s international department.

The inspection is taking place under the provisions of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Vienna Document 2011, regulating inspections and visits to military units.

“Serbia, like Belarus, is committed to fulfilling its arms control obligations,” Ravienka said on X.

In June 2024, Serbian officers inspected the Brest-based 38th Detached Guards Air Assault Brigade under the Vienna Document in what was the first verification event in Belarus in four years.

Western countries limited their contacts with Belarus under the Vienna Document 2011 following the disputed 2020 presidential election. The relations hit a new low in 2022 after Minsk supported Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
