Police arrest Pałac frontman Chamienka

June 30, Pozirk. Police have arrested Aleh Chamienka, lead singer for the Pałac folk rock band, as the government continues a crackdown on the Belarusian elite.
The Viasna Human Rights Center reported the arrest, citing its sources, but said the reason is unknown.
Chamienka, 58, is a famous Belarusian musician, radio host and producer known for popularizing Belarusian music. He has taught at the Minsk-based Belarusian University of Culture and Arts.
