Poland running final tests on electronic barrier at border with Belarus

July 21, Pozirk. Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak has announced the completion of an electronic barrier at all sections of the Belarus border that lack steel fencing.
Today, Siemoniak and his German counterpart, Alexander Dobrindt, visited the Polish-Belarusian border.
Portal Samorzadowy quoted Siemoniak as saying that the 5.5-meter high steel fence was installed along 186-kilometer of the border; additionally, the electronic barrier protects 206 km, including river areas.
According to the Polish minister, Lublin Voivodeship is running final tests on the electronic barrier on the Bug River.
Last September, the Polish Border Guard reported installing a barrier at the Bug border section. “The length of the electronic barrier along this section, supervised by the Bug River border unit, totals approximately 172 km,” it said.
Polish officers expect the system to help handle cross-border crime, irregular migration and goods smuggling.
