Source confirms arrest of Paralympic Committee head

August 29, Pozirk — A source has confirmed to Pozirk the arrest of Aleh Šepiel, chairman of the Paralympic Committee and head of the Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired, in late July.
“I don’t have a clue why he was arrested. I can say only one thing: it’s a real pity,” said the source, who has known Šepiel for 30 years. Pozirk is not disclosing the source’s name for his protection.
“Šepiel has always had a reputation as a man of integrity and principle. He helped people in trouble, defended them from injustice, and always remained humble. He lost his mother early, herself visually impaired, which deepened his empathy for the misfortunes of others.”
