Lithuania sees decline in asylum requests from Belarusians in 2025

January 17, Pozirk. The total number of Belarusians seeking asylum in Lithuania and their share among all foreign applicants have been decreasing for the past three years, according to Pozirk‘s analysis of the official data by the Lithuanian interior ministry’s migration department.
Last year, Belarusian nationals submitted 83 applications for asylum in Lithuania, accounting for 21.8 percent of all asylum-seekers in 2025 after 39 percent reported in 2024 and about 50 percent in 2023.
Lithuania granted asylum to 104 Belarusians in 2025, with some of the approved applications likely submitted in previous years. The figure is 10.3 percent lower than in 2024 and 67 percent lower than in 2023.
Last year, Vilnius rejected asylum applications from 39 Belarusian nationals, a decrease of 44 percent compared with 2024 and 31.6 percent compared with 2023.
As of January 1, 50,286 Belarusians held Lithuanian residence permits, with the number down 7,225 or 12.56 percent, over the year.
