Cichanoŭskaja to move from Lithuania to Poland – reports

January 17, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja and her team are planning to move from Lithuania to Poland, AFP reported today, citing several people close to the politician and a source in the Polish foreign ministry.
Earlier, Cichanoŭskaja told journalists that her children were temporarily staying in the United States, together with her husband Siarhiej Cichanoŭski, while her team was dealing with security and organization issues.
The politician’s office has not yet commented on the information about the move to Poland.
A few months ago, Lithuania decided to downgrade security for Cichanoŭskaja, who has been living in Vilnius with her family since 2020. The announcement drew an immediate backlash, including from former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
According to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, the decision was taken after a thorough assessment of the threat level. He argued that politicians were dramatizing the situation.
Last month, the Lithuanian police were tasked with protecting Cichanoŭskaja.
