Belarusian army’s drills coordinated with Moscow — Kremlin spokesman

September 12, Pozirk. Most combat readiness checks of the Belarusian army are coordinated with Moscow, Russia’s Interfax reports, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying on September 11.
On the same day, Alaksandar Łukašenka visited the Abuz-Lasnoŭski training ground near Baranavičy in the Brest region, which hosted five-day military maneuvers. “The army needs a good shake-up; the time has come,” the politician told journalists from Belarusian state-run media. “That includes the entire army. We’ll inspect everyone, right up to mobilization.”
The politician said the entire armed forces would undergo inspections, with signal and artillery units being inspected on the day of his remarks and motorized infantry units the previous day.
Inspections focus on combat readiness, with troops expected to train under conditions as close as possible to those they would face in battle, Łukašenka said, warning against showmanship, which he said could put servicemen at risk in combat. He described Russia’s war on Ukraine as a key factor in the decision to overhaul the Armed Forces.
The Belarusian ruler reiterated that the authorities need to “prepare for war in order to avoid it,” while stressing that Minsk “has no intention of attacking anyone” and “must always be ready to respond appropriately if something were to happen.”
In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
