Temperatures plunge to record lows in eastern Belarus on January 18

January 18, Pozirk. Belarusian weather stations recorded seven new overnight record low temperatures in eastern Belarus after a cold spell hit the country on January 12, according to Pozirk‘s analysis of the Biełhidramiet’s data.
Record lows were set in the Mahiloŭ region’s Kličaŭ (-29.3 degrees Celsius), Babrujsk (-28), Mścisłaŭ (-24.7 C), Minsk region’s Bierazino (-26.2 C), Viciebsk region’s Orša (-26.2 C), Homiel region’s Brahin (-25.2) and Akciabrski (-24 C).
New low temperature records were set for three consecutive nights in Kličaŭ, Orša and Bierazino, and for five nights in a row in Mścisłaŭ.
The values are comparable to the absolute record low for the night of January 18, -32.8 C, set in Viciebsk in 1940.
Biełhidramiet expects the cold spell to persist for at least two more days.
