Temperatures plunge to record lows on February 10
February 10, Pozirk. Belarusian weather stations recorded five new overnight record low temperatures in Belarus on the night between February 9 and 10 amid an ongoing cold spell, according to Pozirk‘s analysis of the Biełhidramiet’s data.
Record lows were set in Kličaŭ, the Mahiloŭ region (-29.6 degrees Celsius); Vilejka, the Minsk region (-28.9C); Lelčycy, the Homiel region (-25.7C); Narač, the Minsk region (-25C); and Hancavičy, the Brest region (-23.6C).
The previous lowest overnight temperatures in Kličaŭ and Vilejka, -29.5C and -28.1C, date back to 1985. The previous lows, -24.6C and -23C, were recorded in Lelčycy and Narač in 2012. The former low in Hancavičy, -23.5C, goes back to 1996.
In Minsk, the temperature on the night between February 9 and 10, 2026 was -24.4C, far short of the low of -33.9C set in 1940.
Uncharacteristically, temperatures have been the lowest in central Belarus and the northwest.
The cold temperature record for the night, -34.8C, was set in Marjina Horka, Minsk region, in 1940.
Biełhidramiet expects the cold spell to let up on February 11, only to resume a few days later.
