Opposition leader slams Minsk’s vote against UN resolution on Ukraine as disgrace

February 25, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has slammed Minsk’s voting against the United Nations resolution on peace in Ukraine as a shameful move.
“[Alaksandar] Łukašenka’s regime – again – voted against peace in Ukraine at the UN General Assembly. This only proves that neither [Russian President Vladimir] Putin nor Łukašenka want peace,” the politician said on X.
“A free Belarus will stand for international law, human rights and be a reliable partner to the world,” she added.
The UN resolution on a just and lasting peace in Ukraine was timed to the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, carried out with the support of the Belarusian authorities. Only 12 countries opposed it. In addition to Belarus and Russia, these include Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger and Sudan.
In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
