BySol raises nearly €80,000 for recently freed dissidents

March 23, Pozirk. The fundraiser for recently freed Belarusian dissidents has collected €79,760 of the planned €250,000, according to the BySol Solidarity Fund’s website.
On March 19, Alaksandar Łukašenka liberated 250 designated political prisoners following his talks with John Coale, US special envoy for Belarus. As many as 235 were allowed to stay in Belarus, while 15 were taken to Lithuania.
BySol seeks to raise €1,000 for each person to cover basic needs in the first few weeks after their release.
As of March 23, human rights defenders identified at least 890 political prisoners in Belarus, with the number falling below 900 for the first time in more than four years, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
However, politically-motivated persecution, ongoing since the disputed 2020 presidential vote, has not stopped with new additions to the political prisoners’ list expected in the next few days, it noted.
