Zelensky reports “specific activity” by Belarus near shared border

May 2, Pozirk. Ukraine recorded “quite specific activity” by Belarus along sections of the shared border yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said in a video address without elaborating on the details.

“We are closely monitoring everything, keeping everything under control, and, if necessary, we will respond. Ukraine is ready to defend its people and its sovereignty, and everyone who is being drawn into any aggressive activity against Ukraine must understand this,” he stressed.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation, briefly commented on the situation, warning of potential minor provocations. He advised the Belarusian authorities against engaging in them, noting that the potential cost could be too high.

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.
